Chair Silk Fragment
This antique french textile is a fragment of a woven silk chair cover.
The 19th century damask features gold toned & dark rose stripes.
The gold thread has been woven to depict fauna and a gentleman in a striking pattern. In the centre, the gentleman holds a large staff which is topped with a large flower and he emerges above the rich mustard-gold stripe. In the right corner, he is present again looking now slightly mischievous. This blend of narrative with pattern, colour & texture is charming.
